THE NORTH FORSYTH HIGH SCHOOL RIFLE TEAM IS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND
Georgia has the largest number of competitive shooting programs in the nation. The state Rifle Championship Match is always highly competitive and teams train hard throughout the season to win a position at the final match of the year. This year the shooting Raiders of North Forsyth High School have earned a seat at the Championship Match.
With a 8-1 shooting record in the GHSA league, the North Forsyth Raider shooting team will advance to the State Finals in Columbus on 27-28 April. Although regularly advancing into post season shooting, this will be the first time in several years that the Raiders have gone all the way to the state level of competition. Major Mac Kelly, team coach, says, “We hold practice from 0630-0800 every morning. These students have trained many long hours and have displayed uncommon discipline, dedication and consistency . Their hard work has really paid off!”
The championship match will end the teams long shooting season. They have been practicing in early October, making the riflery the longest season in Georgia high school athletics.
The team placed 11th Nationally among Marine JROTC programs earlier this year.
