The Lady War Eagles from South Forsyth gave North Forsyth (25-4) all they wanted on Wednesday night, keeping the high-scoring Lady Raiders off the board until the fourth inning. Abby Martin led off the fourth by reaching on an error, and with one out, Maggie McBrayer hit a line shot over the left-field fence to put the Lady Raiders up, 2-0. The homer was McBrayer’s first of the season.
North would add two more runs in the fifth inning when McKayla Cothran just missed a home run to right field for an RBI triple and Hailey Mize added a sacrifice fly.
South would score a pair of runs in the top half of the 7th before Kyleigh Sanders would finish off the 4-2 victory off with a strikeout.
Sanders pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on five hits, striking out five. Ashleigh Grace and Cothran each had three hits to pace the Lady Raiders’ offensive attack.
North now only needs to win one of the next two nights to secure the first back-to-back region championship in school history. Game Two is on Tuesday night at 7:00, again at North Forsyth.
