North Forsyth and Hillgrove went toe to toe in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader in the second round of the GHSA State Softball Tournament, but Hillgrove rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on for a 7-5 win. North racked up 11 hits but left a staggering 13 runners on base. Ashleigh Grace paced the offense with three hits, while McKayla Cothran and Katie Sarfaty each chipped in with two hits.
Kyleigh Sanders went the full seven innings and deserved a better fate as she surrendered seven runs (only four were earned) while striking out four and walking none.
In Game 2, North jumped on Hillgrove for six runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 13-8 win. Abby Martin (4 RBI) and Hailey Mize (3 RBI) each blasted long home runs for the Lady Raiders. Martin, Cothran, and Mallorie Black each collected a pair of hits. Anslee Anderson also had a hit and two RBI.
Mize pitched the complete game for North, striking out three and walking none.
The third and deciding game is Thursday afternoon at North Forsyth. First pitch is at 5:00 PM. We look forward to a huge crowd to help propel the Lady Raiders to Columbus. Go, Lady Raiders!
