The Lady Raiders already have two feats under their belts that no other softball team at North has ever accomplished. They are the first fast pitch softball team in school history to win back-to-back region championships, and they also did it by breaking the school record for the most wins in a single season with 30. This is also the first team since 2006 to make it to the Elite 8 in Columbus.
On Thursday afternoon, North used the same formula it used all season long by piling on double-digit runs and lockdown pitching, slamming the door on Hillgrove, 11-1.
North Forsyth struck for two runs in the first inning, three more in the second, and added a crushing six runs in the third to jump out to an 11-0 lead. Hailey Mize had a three-run blast, and Abby Martin had three hits and three RBI for the Lady Raiders.
In the circle, Kyleigh Sanders locked down the Lady Hawks by allowing only one run on four hits. She struck out four and walked none. In Sanders’ two starts, she pitched two complete games, and coupled with Mize’s complete-game win in Game 2 on Wednesday night, the Lady Raiders didn’t walk a single Lady Hawk in the three-game series.
The Lady Raiders (30-3) will play Mountain View next Thursday afternoon at Noon in Columbus, Georgia. Stay tuned for more details on next week’s State Championship Tournament.
