Junior Hailey Galbraith defended her state title in the 50 freestyle on Saturday at Georgia Tech in the 2020 GHSA Swimming & Diving State Championship. Galbraith stopped the clock in a time of 23.20, which qualifies as an automatic All-American time. She followed up her state title in the 50 free with a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.28. Both times broke her previous school records in the events.
Senior and Iowa commit Alex Gonzalez also found his way onto the podium in the 100 backstroke. Gonzalez also broke his previous school record in the event in a time of 49.87, which earned him a runner-up finish and an All-American consideration time. Earlier in the meet he just missed a medal with a 4th place finish in the 200 freestyle. Gonzalez also joined his teammates Logan Cornelison, Will Riley, and Owen Brubaker on the 200 medley & 200 freestyle relays, which earned 8th & 11th place finishes in the meet.
Junior Logan Cornelison also tallied some points for the Raiders on Saturday. He finished 5th in the 50 freestyle and 9th in the 100 freestyle. Overall, the Raiders finished 12th in the 7A division of the State Championship and have broken 6 school records this season. Below is a list of the new school records:
