Hello everyone, I am Chief Warrant Officer 3 Villarouel, Senior Marine Instructor and your NFHS Rifle Team head coach. This is my second year coaching the rifle team and I am excited about this upcoming season. Last year we finished 2nd in the Area 6 sectional competition led by our top shot Karlyn Walker, who scored a season high 292 and earned an opportunity to move on to shoot at the State Rifle Shooting Level of Competition. Unfortunately, COVID-19 effectively shut down all competitive events and we were denied the pleasure of watching her compete at the next highest level.
This season we still have some really good competitors on the team and we are certainly looking forward to another great season. Our practices began earlier this month starting at 6:15 in the morning. Since we started practicing, our team has been steadily improving each week since the beginning. Our first match is scheduled for November 5th against Riverside Military Academy. This match will be done virtually since RMA is unable to compete shoulder-to-shoulder. Be sure to check our calendar for details about the match as things remain very fluid. This year the season will run until April if we are fortunate enough to to make it that far. Finally, I would like to extend a very special thanks to our wonderful parents for allowing your kids to be a part of our team and getting them to practice so early in the morning. I know that it is not always convenient to make that happen.
