The Freshman Football team got their 1st win of the season last Thursday night with a 35-33 win over the Lambert Longhorns. The Raiders scored on the first possession of the game when quarterback Logan Curry found tight end Ashton Green on a 10 yard TD pass. However, Lambert would answer with 2 touchdowns on 2 plays in their first two possessions of the game to make the score 14-7 in favor of the Longhorns at the end of the 1st quarter.

North would answer on their first possession of the second quarter by sticking with the running game on a scoring drive capped off by a goal line touchdown run by running back Lake Heffington, but a missed extra point kept the score at 14-13. Lambert scored on their next possession and also missed the extra point to make the score 20-13. Again, North would keep it on the ground and score on quarterback sneak by Curry, but again the Raiders would miss the extra point and remain down by 1 with a score of 20-19 at the end of the half.

Lambert would receive the ball to start the 2nd half and drive down the field and score to extend their lead to 27-19. North would respond on the ground again to start the 4th quarter and Curry would scramble again to find the end zone for his 2nd rushing touchdown of the game. The Raiders would convert the 2 point conversion to tie the game at 27-27. On the the next Lambert possession, Tanner Lucero would strip the ball and force a fumble to give the ball back to the Raiders. North would take advantage and score on a second Lake Heffington TD run. North would again convert the 2 point conversion to extend their lead to 35-27. North would recover the ensuing kickoff, but could not take advantage after missing a 4th down conversion attempt. Lambert would score on the next possession, but miss the 2 point conversion to tie the game, keeping the Raiders lead in tact at 35-33. A 3 & out by the Raiders would give the ball back to Lambert with a chance to win game. However, a desperation pass from the Lambert quarterback led to an interception by cornerback Caleb Bowen to seal the victory for the Raiders.

The win marks the first time that the Raiders (1-3) have beaten Lambert in back to back seasons. North has a bye week next week before taking on the Milton Eagles in Raider Valley, a game that was an overtime thriller last season. Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm on Thursday 10/10.
