The Raiders Freshman Football team fought hard last night at Bulldog Stadium, but ultimately fell short in a 1 point contest to Forsyth Central. The Bulldogs struck first late in the 1st quarter to make the score 7-0. Central would score again mid-way through the 2nd quarter on a 30 yard passing touchdown to extend their lead, but the Raiders would block the extra point attempt keeping the deficit at 13-0. However, North would answer on their next possession by keeping the ball on the ground on a long drive capped off by a 10 yard touchdown run by running back Lake Heffington to draw the Raiders closer at 13-7 going into halftime.
The Raiders would receive the ball to start the 2nd half and drive the field for another score on a 19 yard touchdown run by Heffington again to put North on top 14-13. For the remainder of the 3rd quarter and the first part of the 4th quarter, both offenses struggled to sustain a drive. However, Central was finally able to put a drive together and score with 6 minutes to go in the game, adding a 2 point conversion to take the lead back at 21-14. With 1:55 left to go in the game, the Raiders took over on their own 44 yard line. Under their 2 minute offense North scored with 7 seconds to go in the game on an 18 yard pass from quarterback Logan Curry to wide receiver Zach Shirley. The Raiders decided to go for the 2 point conversion to win the game, but were stopped short of the goal line leading to final score of 21-20 in favor of Forsyth Central.
The Raiders (2-4) will participate in a crossover playoff game next Wednesday at 6:00 pm. Opponent and location are still TBD.
